Vote early at UTSA in joint election for S.A. mayor, city council members

APRIL 16, 2021 — UTSA has been designated an early voting and Election Day site for the upcoming joint election.

Early voting will run April 19–27, and Election Day is May 1.

This election will decide San Antonio's next mayor, city council representatives, and City of San Antonio propositions as well as trustees for Alamo Heights, Harlandale, Judson, Northside, San Antonio and Southside independent school districts.

Any registered county voter can skip Election Day lines and cast a ballot on Main Campus in the H-E-B Student Union ballrooms (HSU 1.104). Marked reserved parking will be available for voters on the south side of the H-E-B Student Union.

Registered voters at the Downtown Campus can cast their ballot early at the nearby Bexar County Elections Department, located at 1103 S. Frio St. Additional polling sites throughout San Antonio along with hours of operation are listed on the county elections site (see mapped locations).

Important reminders about voting:

  • COVID-19 safety protocols will be in effect at all polling locations.
  • All polling stations will be closed on Sunday, April 25.
  • Voters must present one of seven acceptable forms of ID or request a Reasonable Impediment Declaration. Visit Check. Vote. for details about required identification.
  • Voters can check registration status, review sample ballots and create a personalized voter guide before heading to the polls.
  • Deaf Link technology during the early voting period is available at the Bexar County Elections Department, located at 1103 S. Frio St. For curbside voting, call 210-335-0362. Inform the election judge at the polling site upon arrival about the need to access a Braille or audio ballot machine.

In the joint election in 2019, roughly 11.5% of registered Bexar County voters cast a ballot. Just over 13% of voters cast a ballot in the 2017 municipal race, up from 2015, when only 12% of voters participated.

While there has been an increase in voter turnout since the first SA2020 community vision was drafted in 2010, the community's goal for voter turnout for the city continues to be to increase voter turnout by 2% each election.

To help achieve this goal UTSA's Center for Civic Engagement strongly encourages students, staff, faculty and community to make their voices heard by casting their vote on campus during the early voting period.

Remember to adhere to rules that prohibit electronics and phone selfies within 100 feet of polling site.

UTSA officials also encourage area residents and employees at Valero, NuStar and other local businesses to use the university's convenient early voting location.
